John Albert Horne

John Albert Horne, 79 years old, of Kannapolis, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 25, 2023, at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord, NC, after a short period of declining health.  He was born on August 7, 1944, in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Atlas Paul and Ruby Curlee Horne.

Albert worked for more than 40 years at the former Cannon Mills in the Plant 4 Weave Room and retired from Walmart.  He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and loved listening to gospel music.  He was a talented softball player, playing until his late forties on various men’s leagues, and other hobbies included fishing, hunting, and supporting his children and grandchildren in various activities throughout his life.  Albert was humble, quiet, kind-hearted, and caring.  He always put others’ needs before his own and was devoted to and loved his family deeply.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Lanier Horne; his son, Jeffery Eugene Horne; brothers Atlas, Wilson, and Nelson, and sister, Marie.

Those left to cherish his memory include daughters, Janice Horne Jackson (Kenneth) and Pamela Horne McEachern (Barry); brother, Joe Horne; sister, Rebecca Boone; grandchildren, Zachary McEachern (Nicole), Joshua Jackson (Allison), Caleb Jackson (Shannon), and Kaitlan McEachern Six; great grandchildren, Katherine McEachern, Natalie McEachern, Juliet McEachern, Landon Jackson, Madison Jackson, Bryce Jackson, Bentley Jackson, and Aaron Six.

The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis on Thursday December 28, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with the funeral services immediately following at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow in Carolina Memorial Park in Concord.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Elderly Care Unit at Atrium Health for the care and compassion shown to Albert in his final days.
