John "Jake" Edward Melton

John “Jake” Edward Melton, 79, of Rock Hill, formerly of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, July 28, 2023.

Jake was born on August 26, 1943 in Cabarrus County. He was a cherished son of the late Oscar John Melton and Nora Lee Aycoth Melton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Paula King Melton and son, Jason Craig Melton.

Jake lived a life full of fishing, hunting, and loving the great outdoors. He attended AL Brown High School. Jake was a skilled nuclear welder at Duke Power Plant, contributing to the construction of many plants throughout his career.

But what he will be remember most is for incredible sense of humor. Jake had a knack for making people laugh and seeing the best in everyone. He was an avid Tar Heel fan, passionate about college football, and always enjoyed cheering for his team, thick or thin.

Jake was a kind person who left behind cherished memories and a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Derrick Scott Melton (Nikki Johnson) and Michaela Esbjerg; grandchildren, Steven Melton (Brittany), Kristina Thomas (Tony), Justin Melton (Ashley), Christian Curry (Travis), Barry Burke Jr.; great- grandchildren, Carver, Ledger, Cayden, and Evelyn Melton, Jordyn Ingram, Autumn and Victoria Thomas, and brother, Darrell (Carol) Melton.
