Johnny Morgan Martin

Obituary: Johnny Morgan Martin, 89, of Kannapolis died Saturday, October 22, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast. He was born July 3, 1921 in Hancock County, Georgia, the son of the late James I. Martin and Katie Archer Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Dayvault Martin in 1992. Johnny retired from Cannon Mills Co in 1984 after 45 years working in the weave room. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army. He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church where he had been active in the Lutheran Men and Misssions, as well as the Goodtimers group. In his earlier years, he played fastpitch softball with various teams in the area. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at New Hope Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Kim E. Trabold. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Monday at Whitley's Funeral Home. He is survived by two daughters, Linda M. Drye (Glenn) of Concord and Donna M. Smith (Bill) of Kannapolis, 3 grandchildren: Kimberly D. Bisson, Mark Drye and Amanda S. Hesse, 5 greatgrandchildren: Lilianna Drye, Titus Drye, Silas Drye, Zachary Hesse and Morgan Hesse. Memorials may be made to New Hope Lutheran Church, 1615 Brantley Rd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
Visitation: 6:30 - 8:00 P.M. Monday October 25, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, Oct. 26th at New Hope Lutheran Church.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
