Obituary: Johnson C. Kenerley, 90, of Kannapolis died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Big Elm Retirement and Nursing Center following a period of declining health. Born September 4, 1922 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Walter and Nona Jane Thomas Kenerley. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Gray Kenerley who died January 3, 2010, and eight sisters; Grace, Mabel, Blanche, Maude, Ruth, Helen, Lillian, and Clara. Mr. Kenerley retired from Cannon Mills after 42 years of service as a freight handler, served in the US Army during WWII and was a 50 year member of First Evangelical Methodist Church in Kannapolis, where he served in many capacities. He is survived by a daughter; Jan K. Parks and husband Ronnie, granddaughter; Angie Leigh Parks Power and husband Tony, grandson; Andy Leon Parks and wife Megan, and a great granddaughter; Alexis Parks, all of Kannapolis, Sisters-in-law, Faye and Diane Gray, brothers-in-law; Robert Gray (Barbara), Gary Gray (Janet), Joe Hyde and Melvin Barringer, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 10, at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel with Rev. David Hayes and Rev. Billy Carey officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 9, at Whitley's Funeral Home.
