Jorgen Jorgenson

Obituary: Jorgen H. Jorgenson, 100, of Concord. N.C., originally from Leeds N.D. and later Rugby , N.D., passed away on Nov. 12, 2012. He was born March 17, 1912 to Henry and Ingeborg ( Domholdt) Jorgenson on the family farm northwest of Leeds where he was raised. He attended Coulee School and then farmed with his Dad and later acquired his own cattle and grain farm. Jorgen married Lila Gullickson of York, N.D. on January 7th, 1945 at Minot, N.D.. They were blessed with two daughters, Renee and Karen and with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He retired from farming in 1983. In 1998, they moved to Rugby and lived in an apartment at the Haaland Estates. In August 2011, they moved to N.C. to be closer to family. He was a member of Leeds Lutheran Church where he was on the church council. He was secretary of Lake Region Pastors Conference Council. He served on the Board of Directors of the Farmers Co-op Elevator at Leeds for 37 years and was Benson County Commissioner for 14 years. He was a member of the Benson County Farmers Union, the Elks and Sons of Norway. He enjoyed farming, playing cards, traveling and spending time with family and friends. They flew to Germany several times and toured countries in Europe. While there, they took a ferry to Norway with their daughter and family to visit relatives there. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, two sisters, Gladys and Ruth. He is survived by his wife, Lila, two daughters, Karen Meyers and husband Horst of Concord, and Renee Campbell of Kannapolis, five grandchildren: Kari Oien and husband, Greg, Messina Mueller and fiancé Frank Hogan, Jennifer Stone and husband Rock, Shawn McFalls and wife Samantha, Steven Meyers, five great-grandchildren; Keaton, Joran, Luke, Kyleigh and Banks, a brother, Harold Jorgenson of Florida and a sister, Hazel Nystrom of Fargo, ND. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home.
