Obituary: Jose Vicente (Vince) Zavala, 61, of Concord went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 11, 2017 at his residence. He had been in declining health since June. Vince was born January 22, 1956 in El Salvador, a son of the late Lisandro Matias Presa and Leonor Zavala. Also preceding him in death were his two sisters. Elvia Del Carmen Zavala Mejia and Maria De La Paz Zavala.He was a member of Thrive Worship Center in Concord where he served as a Greeter and Elder. For much of his life Vince was in law enforcement. He worked for the Mecklenburg County Sherriff's Department as a deputy, the Huntersville Police Department where he served on the SWAT Team and later with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department where he was assigned to the Airport Police. While in Basic Law Enforcement Training with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department in 1998, he received the Iron Man Award. He had served in the Salvadorian Military during the 1970's. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Thrive Worship Center, Concord, conducted by Pastor Scott Jenkins. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 P.M. until time for the service. At other times the family will be at the residence. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Family members left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Ellen Elisabeth Motz Zavala of the Home, two sons; J.J. Zavala (Jordan) and grandson Luka of Concord, and Alex Zavala of Concord, one brother, Jose Leonardo Zavala (Maria) of Burke, Va. The family requests that memorials be made to Thrive Worship Center, 401 Pitts School Road, Concord, NC 28027 or to the Cannon Memorial YMCA, Harrisburg, NC 28075.
