Joseph Hester Binkley

Joseph Hester Binkley, 100, of Kannapolis, born in Clemmons, NC, passed away January 28, 2022. He was born September 29, 1921 in Forsyth County, a son of the late William G. and Lydia Pegram Binkley. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John (Irene), Charles Ellis (Faye), Tom (Edna), Herbert (Cleve), Howard (Mollie) and Jim (June). He was the seventh of eight children.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Doris Florine Copus Binkley on November 24, 2007.

Joe came to Kannapolis in the early 1940’s to work for Cannon Mills. He retired from Cannon Mills, Plant #1, #7 Spinning Room with 40- plus years of service.  He was a member of Kannapolis Church of Christ for 88 years. He loved being with the church and serving the Lord. He was baptized at Warner’s Chapel Church of Christ in Clemmons when he was 12. He lived his faith in love, joy, peace, long suffering, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, meekness and temperance, and will be remembered as a faithful Christian Servant and a wonderful Dad.

Joe was a veteran of the US Navy during WW II and received the Purple Heart. He served on the USS Ancon until 1945.

Joe liked gardening, reading, and playing board games. He was a quiet man of very few words who had a heart of gold.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Kannapolis Church of Christ with Kirk Sams and Jeff Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

He is survived by his daughter, Judy Binkley Lambert (Danny), 3 grandchildren, Brian Carter (Linda) of China Grove, Bradley Carter (Jennifer) of Virginia, Brent Carter (Tammy) of Charlotte, 7 great grandchildren, Shawn, Amber, Tiffany, Courtney, Jacob and Joseph Carter and Justin Bostian, great grandchild, Noah, sister Mary Pardue.
