Joseph Edward Schelling, Jr.

Joseph Edward Schelling, Jr., age 70, of Concord died on August 3, 2023 at Atrium Health Cabarrus after a period of declining health.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday August 11 at Whitley’s Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM prior to the funeral. Visitation and burial will follow in Louisville KY at Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville KY.

Joseph was born October 12, 1952, in Louisville KY, a son of late Joseph E. Schelling Sr. and Irma D. Schelling. Joseph worked for Phillip-Morris for 32 years until he retired. He started at Phillip Morris in Louisville and then moved to North Carolina to continue at the Concord plant. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

Joseph was honest, caring, thoughtful, loving and highly respected by his family and peers. He was a fun-loving man that will be remembered for having the funniest and goofiest personality around, anyone who was able to know him was lucky. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years, going on cruises, ”Oldies” rock and roll music, coin collecting, horse races (particularly the KY Derby!), old cars, the NY Yankees, UK basketball, the Cleveland Browns, gambling, music trivia and spending quality time with his family.

Joseph was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy Lenger Schelling; his daughter, Tina Harwell and husband, (Zach) of Kannapolis; his son, Joey Schelling III and girlfriend, (Iyana) of Charlotte; his beloved grandson, Eli Joseph Staten–Schelling and his brother, Stephen Schelling and wife, (Nannette) of Crestwood KY.
