Joseph Still Smith

Obituary: Landis, NC Joseph "Joe" Still Smith, age 78, of Landis, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, December 9, 2013. Please join the family in a celebration of Joe's life at First Reformed Church, Landis NC (210 N Central Ave, Landis NC) at 12:30 - 2:00PM on Saturday, December 14. Burial of the cremains will be at the National Cemetery in Salisbury at a later date. Joe was born July 30, 1935 in Greene Co. PA, the son of John T. and Lucretia Inghram Smith. He retired from the US Air Force after 20 years of service and then moved to Landis NC and worked for the US Postal service until retiring again after 22 years of service. Joe was a member of the VFW and loved to golf. He enjoyed his time as starter at the Warrior Golf Club where he was always quick with a smile and a joke. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Jean Cumberledge Smith and his sister, Beatrice Ankrom. He is survived by his daughter, Melinda Brown of Mooresville and his son, Michael Smith (Pam) of Cary, his 4 grandchildren; Matthew Brown (Sammie) of L.A. CA, William Brown (Kayla) of Gold Hill, Taylor Smith and Rachel Smith of Cary, 1 great-grandchild, Madeleine Paige Brown, Sister, Johnella Capelli of Charleroi PA, his dear friend, Wanda Gatton and many nieces and nephews.
