Obituary: Joseph Albert Wood, Jr., 71, of Concord passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 at CMC-NorthEast. He was born September 3, 1943 in Cowpens, SC, the son of the late Joseph Aden Wood and Ellaree Powell Wood. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Virgil Wood and a sister, Louise Bailey. He was a graduate of the NC School for the Deaf in Morganton where he played football. He was a member of the NC School for the Deaf Football Hall of Fame. He had worked previously in the furniture manufacturing business in Lexington, printing manufacturing in Charlotte and then worked and retired from Philip-Morris, Inc. in Concord. He was an entrepreneur, an artist and enjoyed making crafts. He also enjoyed working around his house and gardening. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel. A private family service will be held. He is survived by his wife, Janie Cantrell Wood, five children, Joseph A. Wood, III and wife, Pam of Greensboro, Julia W. Starkey and husband, Rob of Winston-Salem, Sherry Wall and husband, Chuck of Lexington, Jonathan R. Wood of Concord and Jena M.
