Obituary: Josephine Birmingham Griffin, 97, of Kannapolis passed away Friday, January 15, 2016, at CMC North East. Josephine was born April 2, 1918 in Union County to the late John Washington Birmingham and Thelma Brewer Birmingham. She was the former Owner/Operator of Griffin's Food Center in Midway, Kannapolis, which her son Bobby took over. She also worked in the sewing room of Cannon Mill's for 20 years, she did not retire till she was 70 years old. Josephine loved spending time with family, she also loved jewelry, gardening, flowers, and cooking. She formerly attended Temple Independent Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Vance Griffin in 1962, also two brothers, Hoyle and Brice Birmingham, a sister Gladys Mills, and a granddaughter Kim Moser. Those left to cherish her memory, her son Bobby Griffin of Kannapolis, two granddaughters Jo Angela Stirewalt, Gina Brigett Golden, three great-granddaughters, and four great-great-granddaughters. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, (Jan. 26) at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Hubbard officiating, burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
