Obituary: Josephine Mowrer, 95, of Cabarrus County, died peacefully after a period of declining health on July 10, 2014. She will be remembered as a nurturing mother and grandmother, good cook, basket maker, and superb seamstress and needle crafter. In addition to work outside the home at Cabarrus Bank and Cannon Mills, she put up vegetables from the family garden and made clothing for the family. In later years, she worked hard cheering on her beloved Carolina Tar Heels during basketball season. Josephine was born on April 18, 1919 in Mecklenburg County to dairy farmer, William McIlwaine Vance and his wife, Ola Alexander Vance. She attended WCUNC in Greensboro and business college in Charlotte, working as a secretary there before her marriage in 1946 to Clifton Eugene Mowrer. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by all her siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Mowrer Olson (Russ), son, Clifton Eugene, Jr., (Laurie), grandchildren, Laura Maffeo, Rusty Olson, Wes Mowrer, and Amanda Mowrer and great-grandchildren Arielle, Kyla, and Elena Maffeo, Penelope and Russell V. Olson IV. A funeral service will be held at noon on Thursday, July 17th, at Gilwood Presbyterian Church, Concord. The family will receive friends prior to the service, at 11:00 at the church and interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to Gilwood Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 2993 Odell School Road, Concord, NC 28027.

Interment: Gilwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
