Obituary: Joyce Ann Smith Dayvault, 67, of Kannapolis, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015. She passed away at her residence with her family by her side. Her death follows a two year period of declining health. Mrs. Dayvault was born in Cabarrus County, NC, on January 13, 1948, the daughter of the late Harry L. "Red" Smith and Sarah Middleton Smith. Joyce was a long time member of St. John's Reformed church, where she served on various church committees, was a member of the Ladies Guild and active in the church choir. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother and a wonderful example of Christian bravery, courage, faith, hope and love. For many years, she worked alongside her husband, Robert L. "Bobby" Dayvault, Jr. at Martin Drug Co. (now Moose Pharmacy) in Kannapolis. Prior to this she managed Neta's Children Shop in Kannapolis in the 1970's and 1980's. She loved watching her grandsons play baseball and could be found cheering them on at most of their games. Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Robert L. Dayvault, Jr., with whom she would have celebrated 47 years of marriage on November 24th of this year; two sons, Scott Dayvault of Charlotte, Mark Dayvault and wife Sherra of Kannapolis; grandsons, Brandon, Austin and Carson Dayvault; sister, Harriett Helms and husband Jamie of Locust; brother, H. Wayne Smith and wife Charlee of Kannapolis; three nieces, one nephew and one great nephew. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Dayvault will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8th at St. John's Reformed Church with the Rev. Joe Coltrane officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to St. John's Reformed Church, 901 N. The family would like to say a special "thank you" to the staff of Bayada Home Health Care and the private caregivers who provided excellent care to her in her home. They would also like to thank all the doctors and nurses who cared for her over her period of declining health as well as the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County.
