Obituary: Joyce Mackelene Tucker Doby, 79, of Concord passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013 at her home. She was born September 12, 1933 in Cabarrus County. She was preceded in death by her mother, Grier Kiser Tucker McDonald and step father, Wade McDonald. She worked at Cannon Mills Co. ,Plant 1 Sewing Room for 25 years. She was a 1951 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. She was a member of Centerview Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU and taught mission friends. She supported the Christmas Shoebox ministry for Appalachai. She played Joy the Clown at numerous nursing homes. Her life revolved around her family. She was a faithful military spouse during her husband's career with the US Air Force during his numerous deployments and service in Vietnam. She always spent her life looking after others and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at Centerview Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Willie Rash and Rev. Mary Hatley. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Sidney Lowell Doby, daughter, Cynthia Massingale and her late husband, Earl of Tuckasegee, NC, two sons, David Sidney Doby and wife, Kathy of Algonquin, Ill., Douglas Allen Doby and wife, Julie of Kannapolis, grandchildren: Ashlyn and Caroline Doby, Reginia Massingale Case, Heather Queen, Rachel, Robert, Sydney and Daniel Doby, two great grandchildren; Daisy and Rylee Queen, and her brother, Wallace Tucker and wife, Thelma of Kannapolis.
