Joyce Garrett Middleton

Obituary: Joyce Garrett Middleton, 75 of Kannapolis, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Carolinas Specialty Hospital in Charlotte following a month long illness. Mrs. Middleton was born on November 4, 1938 in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Wade Monroe and Lala Queen Garrett. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Herbert R. Middleton who passed away on December 16, 1983. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Max Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services on Friday at the Church. Mrs. Middleton was a graduate of A.L. Brown High and earned her BS degree in education at Western Carolina College. She taught for 9 years at A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis and 28 years in the Zanesville, Ohio City School System. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was active in the choir. She is survived by her son; Jonathan R. Middleton of Zanesville, OH, seven grandchildren; Joshua, Justin, Jade, Jared, Jenna, Jessica, and Jacie and two great grandchildren.
