Obituary: Mrs. Joyce Ann Dowell Smith, 80, of Monroe and formerly of Kannapolis, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Brookdale Monroe Square in Monroe following short illness. Joyce was born June 17, 1936 in Union County, a daughter of the late Dock and Dollie Dyson Dowell. She was of the Baptist Faith. She was a homemaker and enjoyed making various crafts. She will be remembered by her family as a loving wife and mother. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Billy Ray Dowell; and one sister, Betty Jean Dowell. Survivors include her husband, Howard A. Smith, Jr., daughter, Teresa S. Freeman (Todd) of Concord, three sons, Howard "Alvis" Smith, III of Kannapolis, Samuel Dion Smith of China Grove, Paul Tyrone Smith (Denise) of Rockwell and Timothy Wade Smith of Hawaii. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great grandchild. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M.
