Juanita Stone Wayne

February 9, 1933 — November 5, 2010

Obituary: Juanita S. Wayne Davidson, NC- Mrs. Wayne passed away in her home at 8901 Archer Road, Tuesday, November 2. Her loving husband of 60 years, immediate family, the majority of her extended family and many friends were present. Mrs. Wayne was born in Wilkes County, NC, on February 9, 1933, to Harley Spurgeon Stone and Nettie Wiles Stone. She grew up on their farm in Rock Creek and graduated from Mountain View High School, with her favorite subject reported to be Home Economics. All who enjoyed the privilege of eating from her table can attest that her love for cooking only began in school, but never ended throughout her entire life. With her extended family, neighbors and friends as standing invited guests, she and her husband, Claude, were well known for the garden grown and best home cooked meals anyone has ever experienced. Mrs. Wayne was employed on several occasions, including at General Times of Davidson and as a secretary at her two sons' construction company, Wayne Brothers, Inc., where she later retired from public work and returned to her life of sewing clothes and cooking many delicious meals for as many of her loved ones as she could. Juanita and Claude were married on August 19, 1950 in York, SC, and have lived at their present farm home in Cabarrus County since moving there in 1960. Mrs. Wayne is survived by her husband, Claude, her three sons, Delmar and wife Nina, Eric and wife Tammy, both of China Grove, Keith and wife Michelle of Davidson, one daughter, Sylvia Kincaid, and husband Wally also of Davidson, one sister, Mrs. Nannie Panton of Raleigh, and a very special niece, Ms. Nina Shew of Apex. Mrs. Wayne was blessed to have a number of grand and great grand children with who to share the bounty of their table and the handiwork of her hand sewn clothes. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, on Thursday, November 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. She is a member of Peak Creek Church of the Brethren in Laurel Springs, NC, where she will lie in state on Friday, November 5, from 11:30 to 12:30 before a funeral service to begin at 1:00. Burial will follow in the Sheets Cemetery situated along the mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway, which was always Juanita's favorite place to be, there among her native mountain hills of NC. The family wishes to thank the many friends and loved ones who supported Juanita and Claude throughout her five year battle with breast cancer. Accordingly, a memorial has been established with the Northeast Foundation Breast Health Campaign in her honor. Donations may be made to NorthEast Foundation, 920 Church Street N, Concord, NC 28025.
