Obituary: The Honorable Judge James Curtis (Jim) Davis, age 85, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Carolinas Heathcare System-NorthEast, Concord, NC. He was born July 30, 1929 in China Grove, NC, the son of the late Robert Jackson Davis and Mae Phillips Davis. Judge Davis was a graduate from Catawba College and Wake Forest University Law School. Jim Davis being born during the great depression, took it upon himself to always strive to better his education and commitment to his family, his faith, and his work ethics. Just a few of his work accomplishments in life include: working at the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, #2 Weave Room as a fixer; a volunteer fireman at the China Grove Fire Dept; a teacher at Barber-Scotia College; a magistrate in Rowan County; a District Court Judge in Rowan County; served in the N.C. State House of Representatives; a distinguished lawyer co-founding the firm of Davis, Koontz, and Horton; and as a N.C. Superior Court Judge for twenty years and as an Emergency Judge for twelve years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Concord, NC where he was active in various phases of church activities. He also held membership in Stokes Masonic Lodge; Scottish Rite Bodies of Charlotte; and a shriner with Oasis Temple. He was honored some years ago being bestowed a 33 degree mason, a special honor. As if that was not enough, he further enjoyed participating in the Piedmont Singing Mens Choir for some time. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Monroe (Bob) Davis. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 14, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Concord, NC officiated by Rev. Tom Anderson. Inurnment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm Thursday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-two years, Annie Mae Basinger Davis; three sons, Michael Davis of Concord, NC; Mark Davis & wife, Teresa of Concord, NC; and Dr. Hung Davis of Glen Burnie, MD; a daughter, Lisa Davis of Kannapolis, NC; and a brother, Larry Davis of Cherry Grove, SC; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
