Obituary: Judy Ann Goodman James, age 67, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after a six year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born October 31, 1948 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Ervin Oree Goodman and Ruth Virginia Blackwelder Goodman. Judy was a 1967 graduate of A.L. Brown High School and had taken various courses at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for her state certification in the state education system. Judy was a child nutrition manager for Kannapolis City Schools after thirty years of service having been started at McKnight School, then Fred L. Wilson Elementary School, and finally at Kannapolis Middle School until her retirement. She was an active member of Charity Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC and in previous years was active at Lakewood Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, GA leader, Vacation Bible school leader at various times, homecoming committee, and the benevolence committee. Her family strongly remembers her love for the Lord and her family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother, Joe Ervin Goodman. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Charity Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by the Revs. Marty Payton, Ron Bushey, and Robert Howard. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, March 28, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. Survivors include her husband of forty-eight years, Jerrel E. James; her two daughers, Kimberly J. Barrier (Walter) and Gwendolyn Atkinson (Brian); and her son, Chad E. James; and four grandchildren.
