Julia and Lou spent their entire married life raising their three children in the Saugerties, N.Y. area, residing at 99 West Bridge St., Saugerties, from 1946 until his sudden death in 1980. Following her husband's death, Julia and her daughter Bonnie moved to Kannapolis, N.C. where they resided near her son Louis, Jr. and his family until her death. Julia was a seamstress at several Saugerties clothing manufacturers and also worked for the A & P and Grand Union Supermarket stores in Saugerties for a number of years. She was truly the "last of her generation" having been predeceased by her eight siblings, Thomas Simmons d. 1977, Helen Simmons Arold d. 1980, Mary Simmons Briethaupt d. 1986, James Simmons d. 1896, Martin Simmons d. 1972, Margaret Simmons Davis d. 1935, Elizabeth Simmons Scott d. 1988 and Edward Simmons d. 1984 and their spouses as well as her husband's four siblings, Stephen Erceg d. 1968, John Erceg d. 1977, Mary Erceg Krstovic d. 2002 and Anthony Erceg d. 1993, and their spouses. Julia's long and happy life revolved around her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. She also enjoyed traveling with Bonnie and attending school functions, Broadway musicals, Myrtle Beach shows and country music. Lou, Jim and Bonnie fondly remember her "strict" parenting techniques (which didn't end when they became 18) and also the total devotion she gave to being a mother and a hostess to her and Lou's siblings and their families, especially on holidays, which were always family celebrations. Julia's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Avante Nursing Home for the kind and loving care they provided to her during her five years of residence.
