Julia “Roberta” Baxter Patterson, 87, of Concord, peacefully passed away Sunday evening, August 4, 2024, at Concord Place Assisted Living, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born July 31, 1937, in Royston, GA, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Estelle Sartain Baxter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Bert Patterson, and her sister, Gladys B. Mishak.
Mrs. Patterson had earlier worked for Cannon Mills, later working for various lady’s dress shops in downtown Kannapolis, which she so enjoyed. Roberta was a long-time member of Second Presbyterian Church. She had been active in various church activities, but was most instrumental in bringing homeless families to the church for housing. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
Roberta was a caregiver to so many others her whole life. It is only fitting that her children became her caregiver during her illness. She loved her family, church family, and friends dearly. She loved the beach and visiting extended family in GA. Our lives will never be the same.
Family members include her children, Kirby Patterson (Susan), Shelby Marlow (Larry) and Teresa Parham; her grandchildren, Marc and Chris Patterson, Brandon Hines, and Douglas and Bradley Marlow; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Baxter, Sr., and Larry Baxter (Linda); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Friday, August 9, 2024, in the sanctuary of Second Presbyterian Church. Funeral services to remember and give thanks for Mrs. Patterson’s life will begin at 2:00 pm in the church, conducted by Pastor Sue Black. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, where she will be placed to rest with her husband.
Whitley’s Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Patterson.
