Obituary: Julian Thomas Lunsford, Age 104, died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC. He was born May 27, 1908 in Franklin County, Georgia, the son of the late C.A. Lunsford and Estelle James Lunsford. Julian was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant #4, #1 Weave Room for forty-eight years until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where in earlier years he ushered. After he retired from work he would meet with friends at the old Roses snack bar and fellowship for hours. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II in an artillery division in the European Theatre of Operations He was a life member of the V F.W. Poston-Perkins Post 8989 and the D.A.V. Chapter 54. He was also a member of Cannon Memorial Masonic Lodge # 626 for over sixty years. Julian loved fishing especially with his granddaughters. He and his late wife loved traveling to places like Gatlinburg, TN and Williamsburg, VA. They also loved picnicking at places like Morrow Mountain, Chimney Rock State Park, and their own back yard. They would prepare large meals instead of sandwiches like green beans, salads, and corn bread for these special times. Julian loved walking. Not only walking the neighborhood but would walk to Carolina Memorial Park and back just to visit his late wife's gravesite. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Etta Bond Lunsford; a granddaughter, Cathy Neibur; five brothers; and three sisters. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Tim McQueen. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC with masonic rites conducted by Cannon Memorial Lodge # 626. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his two daughters, Doris E. Lunsford of Kannapolis, NC and Morene Dillard of Charlotte, NC; one great-granddaughter, Jeanne Tatum & husband, Robby of Kannapolis, NC; one great-grandson, Matthew Tatum & wife, Glynus of Lexington, NC; and one sister, LaRue Orr & husband, Winford of Winder, GA. Memorials may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 1785 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
Visitation: 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
