June Carroll Miller Land, 84, of Kannapolis passed into her heavenly rest on Saturday, August 7, 2021.
June was born September 10, 1936 in Rowan County to Nelson Henry Miller and Mary Helen Hunt Miller. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Charles Nelson Miller.
She was a High School English teacher for over 30 years. She loved the reward of educating her students and through the years was regularly approached by a former student anytime she was out and about. Her teaching career was cut short by her need for a liver transplant in 1994. In evidence of her spirit and determination she was one of the longest surviving transplant patients ever, at over 27 years from her surgery date.
She was an avid painter and enjoyed imparting that passion in her later years to her grandchildren.
June loved her many road trips with her friends Peggy, Judy, and Phyllis. Many towns around the country were never the same after a visit from these ladies! She was also a mean bridge player whose skills were in such desire that at times she was a member of three bridge clubs at once.
A life-long active member of her church, Memorial Baptist, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Women’s Circle Group. I recent years she had continued her love of teaching by starting a Girl’s Creative Writing Group there.
June is survived by her husband of 63 years Thomas (Tom) Land, daughter Julie (Marc) Lyons of Raleigh NC, son Patrick (Kate) Land of Charlotte NC and grandchildren Mary McKinley Lyons (Mary Mac), Elizabeth Pressly Lyons, Alden Andrews Land and Angus MacRae Land. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Charlcey Miller, nieces Kelley Miller Dorsey, Jennifer Miller McElroy, nephew Jeffrey Miller and their families all of Atlanta, GA.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Wednesday August 11, 2021 at Memorial Baptist Church, Kannapolis NC. The funeral service will follow beginning at 2:00pm with Reverend Jason Barber officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park.
