Obituary: Karen Morris Hammett, 69, went to be with the Lord June 23, 2014 at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis after a brave and prolonged battle with both lung and liver cancer. She was born in Lincoln County, the city of Alexis, NC to the late Hall M. Morris and Dorothy Neal Morris. She was preceded in death by her brother, Kent M. Morris. Karen graduated from Cabarrus Memorial School of Nursing on June 2, 1966 and spent 44 years as a caring, meticulous registered nurse. Karen loved her flowers, family, Lord, and Savior and her close circle of friends and caregivers. Survivors include two sons, Britt Hammett and Steve Hammett both of Kannapolis; a daughter, Shawn Hammett of Las Vegas, NV; a granddaughter, Hunter Hammett; a grandson, Indiana Hammett of Kannapolis; and a daughter-in-law, India Hammett, also of Kannapolis. A Celebration of Life visitation will be Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. with a service at 5:00 p.m. at the Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel.
