Kathleen Karriker Funderburk

Obituary: Kathleen Karriker Funderburk died peacefully at Five Oaks Nursing Center on August 23, 2011. Kathleen was born April 9, 1919 in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Albert Neal and Lilly Benfield Karriker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Braxton Funderburk, her brother, Vard Karriker and sisters Mae Karriker, Elsie Sloop and Edith Sloop and her daughter-in-law Linda Funderburk. She is survived by two sons, Jerry Funderburk and wife Sylvia of Huntersville, and Tommy Funderburk of China Grove, three grandchildren; whom she loved, talked about constantly, and was proud of; Gianna Bryan, Wendy Mitchell and Cheryl Funderburk, five great grandchildren: Cloie, Philip and Graham Mitchell and Noah and Zane Bryan and one sister Hazel Lisk of Siler City.Kathleen graduated in1936 as Salutatorian from JW Cannon High School in Kannapolis. She was a lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church, now New Hope Lutheran Church in Kannapolis. She enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. She was a very independent religious lady and was an avid reader. She loved working in her flower garden and enjoyed cooking for her family, especially deserts. She retired from Cannon Mills after 44 years of service. A Memorial service will be held at New Hope Lutheran Church in Kannapolis on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Kim Trabold officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at the church. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.The family wishes to thanks the staff of Five Oaks Manor and Dr. Keipper of Concord for their loving care.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Hope Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 1615 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Funderburk.
