Kathleen Forrest Sweatt, 78, passed away Monday evening, August 19, 2019, at CMC-Main, following a period of declining health.
Born January 27, 1941 in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late William “Bill” Franklin Forrest and Bessie Hartsell Forrest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Leon Sweatt, her sister, Liz Lefler and a brother, Billy Forrest.
Kathleen had retired from the weave room of Cannon Mills, Plant 1, after more than 38 years of loyal service. Mrs. Sweatt was a lifelong devoted member of Sharon Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking and working in her yard. A loving mother, sister and grandmother, Mrs. Sweatt will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family members left with cherished memories include her children, Karen Crayton (Mark), Tammy Allman (Tim) and Ricky Leon Sweatt (Sandra); her brother, Kenneth Forrest (Shelby); 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, August 22nd from 6:00-8:00 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mrs. Sweatt will begin at 2:00 PM Friday, August 23, 2019, at Sharon Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jim Strickland, Rev. James Smith and Rev. Gene Beaver. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Mrs. Sweatt will be laid to rest beside her husband at Carolina Memorial Park.
