Kathleen Biggerstaff Zakis

Obituary: Kathleen Biggerstaff Zakis, 83, of Swansboro, NC, formerly of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC. She was born May 23, 1932 in Lincoln County, NC daughter of the late Alford Adolphus and Ella Smith Biggerstaff. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Allen Bowles and her son Barry Dean Bowles, her 3 brothers; Guy, Cleveland and Robert Biggerstaff and 2 sisters; Mary Wyetzner, Evelyn Austin and foster -sister, Ruth Misisco. Mrs. Zakis is a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church. She was employed in Cannon Mills in the sheet department prior to her retirement. She loved to play bingo. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Bowles Tapscott of New Bern, four grandchildren, Damian Hudson, Gabriel Hudson, Amber Richardson and Israel Everhart, five great grandchildren : MacKenzie, Jackson, Cameron, Jacob, Caleb and one great great grandchild, Layla. She is also survived by two sisters, Mabel Tarlton and Rosa Black. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Gene Edwards. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Saturday prior to the service.
