Obituary: Kathryn McClendon Evans, born August 4, 1920 in LaFayette, Alabama, died at age 96 on October 16, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia. Born Sarah Kathryn McClendon, she was the third youngest of 11 children born to Jabe Dyer McClendon and Anna Coggins McClendon, and the last to die. After graduation from LaFayette High School she attended and graduated from Jacksonville State Teachers College (now Jacksonville State University) in Jacksonville, Alabama. Kathryn married George Bismarck Evans, Jr. in 1944 in LaFayette and they remained married until his death in 1982. After his release from the US Navy they moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he trained for a career at The Coca-Cola Company. In 1948 Kathryn and Bismarck moved to Charlotte, NC where she would live for 65 years other than a two-year stay in San Francisco on a Coca-Cola assignment. She moved to Atlanta in 2013 to live with her daughter Caroline Evans Moise and son-in-law Phil. Kathryn is survived by her daughter Caroline Evans Moise (Phil) of Atlanta, her son George Bismarck Evans III (Marilyn) of Montgomery, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. After a private graveside service, friends of Kathryn are invited to join the family at a reception at 3:30 pm Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Providence Road United Methodist Church in Charlotte. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Visiting Nurse Health Systems/Hospice Atlanta, 5775 Glenridge Drive NE, Suite E200, Atlanta, GA 30328.
