Kathy Marie Underwood Wampler, 65, of Kannapolis NC died at her home on March 16, 2023, after a period of declining health.
A visitation will be held at Whitley’s Funeral Home from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday, March 19th. Funeral services will take place at Bassett Funeral Home in Bassett VA on Wednesday, March 22. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 to 1:00 PM and the funeral will begin at 1:00 PM with Rev. J.D. Walker officiating. Burial will follow at the County Line Church of God of Prophesy Cemetery in Patrick Springs.
Kathy was born October 26, 1957, in Rocky Mount VA, a daughter of the late Stanley L. Underwood Sr. and Mary Ellen Hodges Underwood Walker of Bassett VA. In addition to her father, Kathy was preceded in death by her son Ronald Leon Underwood, her granddaughter Cierra Dawn Underwood and her step-father, James Walker.
Kathy was raised in Virginia where she had her first son Ron. Years later, she moved to Charlotte, NC, where she worked at Ivey's that later became Dillards. While in NC she had two more children, Tony and Dawn. later Kathy moved back to Virginia where she had another son, Jay! When she moved back to NC, she was employed at Speedway, Philip 66, Huddle House, Walmart and Lees clothing shop! Some of her favorite things that she loved doing were watching NASCAR. Her favorite driver(s) were Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt JR. Her biggest enjoyment in life was her kids, grandkids and her puppies.
Those who remain that cherish her memory include her significant other, Robert Francis of Kannapolis, her son Tony West (Heather Hunt) of Monroe, her daughter Dawn West Bohn (Tony) of Wingate, her son Jay Michael Lowder of Concord, her sons Robert Francis (Faith) of Granite Quarry, Michael Francis (Tiffany) of Mooresville, her eleven grandchildren R.J., Chris, J.C., Shayleigh, Camron, Zoey, Jaylon, Ron, Bentley, Olivia, and Adalyn, her six great grandchildren. Kathy is also survived by her brothers, Lewis Underwood (Lisa), Doug Underwood (Teresa), Robbie Underwood, Peanut Underwood (Ashlee), all of VA, Neil Prater of California, Benny Prater, and sister Bonnie Wagoner (Ronnie) of Va.
