Katie Sue (Overcash) Emerson

Katie Sue Overcash Emerson was born to Bruce and Lois Overcash in Iredell County on July 17, 1931. She crossed over to heaven on November 10, 2023 after several years of declining health.

Katie was also preceded in death by her husband, Mason, her only daughter, Gail, and son Alan and her brothers, Charles, David and Ben Overcash.

She is survived by sons Steve, Gary, Hal, Tony, Bruce (Ellen) and Charles (Erin). Her grandchildren are Michael (Anita), Chuck (Angel), Melissa Emerson,, Adam (Natalie) Emerson, Brittany Townsend, Brandon Tidwell and Ciana Emerson. Katie’s great-grandchildren are Gage Cole, Cameron Emerson, Emma Townsend and Jason Townsend.

Katie’s funeral will be on Tuesday, November 14, at Gilwood Presbyterian Church at 2993 Odell School Road in Concord where she faithfully served the Lord all her life. Rev. Alan Buckner will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:45 p.m. at the church followed by the service at 3 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.

Katie graduated from W. R. Odell School in 1949. She worked at Odell cafeteria as well as being a bus driver and custodian. She made long lasting friendships with adults and children there. She enjoyed many years as a cook at Coddle Creek Grocery and made many friends there.

Katie had a green thumb as did her mother. She could make anything grow. She also loved her many cats.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Huntersville Oaks for their care during the last year.
