Obituary: Kay Shinn Durham, 75, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House. Born July 11, 1940 in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Clifford Carl and Frankie Bell Shinn. Kay was a 1958 graduate of A.L. Brown High School and had worked for Cannon Mills, General Microcircuits Inc. of Mooresville and Food Lion in China Grove. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Kay loved her family and her dachshunds, Missy and Sassy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Durham and her sister, Jean Brantley. Family members include her sons Randy Hearne (Sandra), and Johnny Hearne; her daughter Kim Hearne; her brother Donald Shinn (Annette); her grandchildren Shannon Cook (Kyle), Brandy Hancock, Amelia, Jenny, Chasity and Courtney Hearne; and her great-grandchildren Evan and Jaycee Hearne, Lucas Hoover, Zariah Brown and Kadience Howard. The family will receive friends Monday, January 4th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mrs. Durham will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, at Unity United Methodist Church at 8505 Unity Church Rd., Kannapolis, NC, conducted by the Rev. Tim Whittington, pastor. Burial will follow in Kannapolis City cemetery. On-line condolences may be made to the family at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
