Kenneth B. Gurley

Obituary: Kenneth Bost Gurley, 86, of Kannapolis passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Tucker Hospice House after 7 years of declining health. He was born January 31, 1928 in Cabarrus County to the late James A. Gurley and Agnes Bost Gurley. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Colleen Gurley Woodward and a brother James L. Gurley. He was lifetime member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church of Kannapolis. Mr. Gurley served four years in the US Air Force and one year in Korea. He was a retired worker from Cannon Mills of 40 years. He loved going to the beach, camping, and bird watching. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel officiated by Rev. Randall Ritchie. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors by the Cabarrus Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Whitley's Annex Chapel. At other times, they will be at the home. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jean Cashion Gurley, two daughters, Debra G. Eagle and husband, Floyd of Concord, Kennitha "Nitha" G. Plowman and husband Kevin of Albemarle, 5 grandchildren, Shane Plowman and wife Krista of Albemarle, Trisha W. Barnes and husband Daniel of Archdale, John Morris of Kannapolis, Kenton Plowman and wife April of Albemarle, Ashley S. Wright and fiancé Chris of Concord, 8 great grandchildren, Kyler, Karah and Aly Plowman, Taylor and Peyton Morris, Kaley and Kegan Plowman and Amy Wright. He is also survived by a sister, Doris G. Hess and husband, Terry of Faith, two brothers, Donald Gurley and wife Martha of Concord and Paul Gurley and wife Lorene of Richfield.
