Obituary: Kenneth Walker Johnson, 77, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, March 6, 2018, at Gordon Hospice House, surrounded by his devoted and loving family. Ken was able to stay at home during his declining health before being moved to the hospice house. Born July 2, 1940 in Iredell County, he was a son of the late James Burl and Belva Walker Johnson. In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by a brother, J.B. Johnson, Jr. and a sister, Patty Joe Johnson Canupp. Mr. Johnson retired from Abex, where he was a fabricator mechanic. He was a longtime member of Woodleaf United Methodist Church, where he had held several offices. Ken had been a member of Woodleaf Fire Department and was a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed farming and salt water fishing at their second home at Harkers Island. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend of many, Ken will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Family members include his wife of more than 52 years, Janet Kluttz Johnson; his children, Mark Johnson and wife, Luann of Troutman, and Tina Johnson Loftin and husband, Matt, of Mt. Ulla; his grandson, Tyler Loftin; his brother, Larry Johnson; sisters, Louise McDaniel, Nancy Redman, Norma-Jean Parker, Barbara Jolly, and Martha Hartley, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm Saturday, March 10th at Woodleaf United Methodist Church. Funeral services to remember and celebrate Ken's life will begin at 3:00 pm in the church, conducted by Kevin Jasper, Pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
