Obituary: Kenneth Wayne "Butch" Long, 75, of Kannapolis, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from CHS-NE after a period of declining health. His funeral will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 30, with Rev. R. J. Beaver officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. His visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Whitley's prior to his service. Kenneth was born March 4, 1943 in Rowan Co., a son of the late George and Katherine Roberts Long. He was a lifelong area resident. He worked in the mills during his earlier years, including Cannon Mills Plant #1 for 30 years and then worked for the city of Kannapolis in the water treatment plant until he retired in 2013. In his earlier years He enjoyed drag racing and going to the mountains with his family. Kenneth loved to care for his pets and local wildlife. He was loving and devoted family man. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Leon Long and Donnie Lee Long. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Glenda Hackworth Long, his son, Kenneth "Ken" Long II (Lisa) and his daughter, Judy Bare (Mark) all of Kannapolis, his grandchildren; Bradley Markel (Stephanie), Joshua Brandon Long, Bailey and Benjamin Bare, Great-grandson, James Markle and his sisters; Dolores "Sis" Hill and Kay Yow and his brothers; Harold Long and Eugene Long (Janice) all of Kannapolis.
