Obituary: Kenneth Worley Miller, Sr., 77, of Kannapolis joined the Lord on Friday, June 17, 2016 at CHS-Northeast Medical Center, Concord. Ken suffered a heart attack which ended his time on earth. Ken was born November 6, 1938 in Cabarrus Co., NC, a son of the late Alton Worley Miller and Ruth Rebecca Roberts Miller. Upon graduation from A.L. Brown High School, in 1956. Ken spent a year at Wake Forest University before serving his country honorably for five years as a corpsman in the United States Navy. He was awarded a good conduct medal in 1960. While in the Navy, Ken married Judith Ailene Perry in Dec. of 1961. They were happily married for 37 years. During this time Ken and Judy had three children, Kenneth Jr., 50, William, 49, and Jennifer, 47. Ken was a graduate of San Jose State University, in 1965 with a BA in Sociology/Psychology. He used his degree to begin his career in the Calif. State Correctional System. This job served him well, as it took him up and down the state to live in the cities of San Jose, Pismo Beach, and Ventura among the highlights. He and Judy eventually settled in Santa Cruz, CA. Here he worked for the state as a Rehabilitation Officer, helping the handicapped find jobs in the community. He transitioned to a parole agent and served in this capacity for an additional seven years. Ken was a loving father, who was actively involved in all his children's sports activities including coaching Santa Cruz Little League, President of the Pony/Colt league and an officer in the Harbor High Booster Club. As an active Booster you could find Ken working in the snack bar and prepping the fields for play. Ken felt the need to return to his birth home of Kannapolis, in 1998 to care for his ailing sister and mother. Upon returning to his home he rekindled many friendships and loved to go to auctions and car lots. In the past few years of his life on earth, he was accompanied by his loving girlfriend, Becky Gheen. She cared and looked after his every need. She was a willing companion on his many visits to the auction houses and get togethers with their numerous friends. He is survived by his children, Ken Jr. (Amy) of Soquel, Ca., and Bill (Michelle) of La Salva Beach, Ca. , Jennifer Miller of Aptos, Ca ,. He had five beautiful grandchildren; Emily (20), Maggie (16), Caroline (15), Scotty (7), and Ryan (6). His brother, Jimmy Miller (Phyllis) of Kannapolis, former wife, Judy Miller of Aptos, Ca. and companion, Becky Gheen of Kannapolis. He was also preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Kelsey, mother Ruth Rebecca Roberts Miller and father Alton Worley Miller. Memorial services will be held 12:30 P.M.
