Kenneth Eugene Upright, Sr

Obituary: Kenneth Eugene Upright, Sr. 78, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at his residence, following a period of declining health. Born December 14, 1939 in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late G.T. and Myrtle Marie Sechler Upright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Upright, Frances James and JoAnne Russ; and his brothers Herman, R.T. "Dixie" and Banks Upright. Kenneth had honorably served his country as a Sergeant with the Army National Guard. He began his retail career with Belk's Department Store, was store manager for Peebles Department Store in Charlotte and Southern Pines and later for K-Town Furniture in Kannapolis. Mr. Upright enjoyed golf, watching sports on TV and painting. A member of Central Baptist Church, he loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years, Janice King Upright; his children Susan Upright White (Randy), Ken Upright, Jr. (Phyllis), and Michael Upright (Angie); his grandchildren Taylor Upright Chapman (Josh), Ragan, Myka, John and Jason Upright, Taylor and Brett White; great-grandson Jaylen White and soon to arrive great-granddaughter Berkley Kate Chapman, his sister-in-law Barbara and Larry Cline, and special grandchildren Ava and Kyla Orbison. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 6th from 5:00-7:00 pm at Central Baptist Church. Services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Upright will begin at 7:00 pm in the church, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Parker, pastor and Rev David Gales. Burial will take place in the Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made in Mr. Upright's name to Central Baptist Church, 1810 Moose Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
