Larry Ray Deal

Obituary: Larry Ray Deal, 68, of Salisbury passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016. Larry was born December 9, 1947 in Rowan County, a son of the late J.T. and Virginia Deal. Larry was a 1966 graduate of South Rowan High School where he made All-Rowan county football teams in 1964 and 1965. He also played basketball and track. He earned nine varsity letters. Larry was a graduate of East Carolina University where he played football. He came back home to South Rowan High School where he later became head football coach, track coach and basketball coach, as well as athletic director for many years. Larry was a member of First United Methodist Church in China Grove. He retired from the US Army Reserves after over 20 years of service. He was an avid deer hunter. In his retirement, Larry enjoyed working part-time at Sam's Club where he got to reminisce with a lot of his former friends and players. Larry loved his family, especially being involved with and never missing any of his grandchildren's sporting events. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday, October 27, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, China Grove officiated by Rev. Mike Goode. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Diane Horton Deal, daughter, Angie Chrismon (Thad), son, Andrew Deal (Carrie), 5 grandchildren, Austin and Nathan Chrismon, Jackson, Landon and Mason Deal, twin brother, Jerry Deal (Joyce) and sister, Eloise Teeter.
