Larry Eugene Harris, 83, of Concord, passed away on December 5, 2022. Born in Burke County, NC, he was the son of the late Wilmer Leeander Harris and Pauline Cornelia Garrett Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jerry, and by his brother Clifford. Larry was a 1957 graduate of Winecoff High School, UNC Chapel Hill in 1961 earning an A.B. in history and economics degree, and a graduate of Wake Forest law school in May 1965, earning his LLB degree.
Larry was a US Marine veteran during the Cold War. He had an incredible love and passion for the law as he practiced law in Cabarrus County for 51 years, which allowed him to help hundreds of people and make lifelong friendships. In addition, he was a member for years with the Cabarrus County Bar Association – former President, NC Bar Association, NC State Bar, NC Academy of Trial Lawyers, and a former judge, Cabarrus County Domestic Relations and Juvenile Court, 1970. As well as member of multiple civic organizations including Kannapolis Jaycees, Former VP, Winecoff Lions, Former President, Mason and Shriner – member, Cabarrus Shrine Club, Cannon Memorial YMCA – member of the health club.
He was an avid golfer, who during his prime was near pro level, and over the course of his life won many local tournaments, thus making lifelong friendships. He was an avid sports fan, as he loved all pro golf events, especially The Masters, as he looked forward to it each year, and loved the Atlanta Braves, the prior Washington Redskins, and Wake Forest football and basketball. He often spoke of his enjoyment of watching golf legends such as Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Rory McIlroy, Chi Chi Rodriguez, and Ben Crenshaw. He would say coming down the back nine is really when it matters the most with who is going to win at The Masters.
He is survived by his children: Laura Harris Walker of Decatur, GA, and Richard Harris (Rashida) of Concord, NC; his brothers, Ron Harris (Mary) of Cleveland, TN, and Bob Harris (Patty) of Duluth, GA; his grandchildren, Grant Walker, and Aleeza Harris; and several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the employees of The Living Center of Concord, for the care they provided through the years.
