Larry Wayne Hubbard, 83, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 17, 2023.
Larry was born on August 24, 1939 in Rowan County to the late Milton Lee Hubbard and Vesta Virginia Hubbard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Milton Lee “Johnny” Hubbard Jr., Duncan LaFoy Hubbard; sister, Sarah Carter, and a granddaughter, Natalie Marie Webb.
While he was born and passed away in the same Kannapolis home, Larry’s affinity for being on the water gave him the opportunity to travel to many places across the globe. Larry honorably served his country in the United States Navy and Coast Guard. He retired after 23 years of service. The remainder of his career was spent working in the international dredging industry. He had a talent for and enjoyed working on and restoring automobiles. Whether it be deep sea marlin fishing or bluegill at the local pond , he always enjoyed dropping a line in the water. Other of his many interests included woodworking, gardening, baseball and working on electronics. While he liked to tease, he was always good natured and enjoyed laughing and visiting with family and friends, always accompanied by a cup of strong, black coffee.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 18 years, Marilou Lanza Hubbard; sons, Larry (Kim) Wayne Hubbard II and Gregory Hubbard; daughter, Jennifer Webb; first wife and mother of his children, Linda Hubbard; sister, Alda Mullis; step-sons, Mike (Jenny) Saavedra and Leo Digario Saavedra, Liomark Saavedra (Marimel) Marlou Saavedra, Jean Mark Saavedra; step-daughter, Sara (Andrew) Bano; 9 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Salisbury National Cemetery 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury NC, 28144 with full military honors.
