Larry Karriker

Obituary: Larry William Karriker, 65, of Kannapolis died January 4, 2017 at his home. He was born August 21, 1951 in Iredell County, the son of Nancy Smith Karriker of Kannapolis and the late Troy William Karriker. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred Lee Karriker and Vivian Beaver Karriker, Thad Smith and Mabel Parks Smith. Larry was a graduate of South Rowan High School. Larry was known for his vegetable truck crops on the farm. He was employed by Clark Nursery of Charlotte for 17 years and later worked with the family business at Karriker Daylily Gardens. Larry was assistant scoutmaster of the Boy Scout Troop at Concordia Lutheran Church for several years. He was a volunteer for the Rowan County Humane Society. He loved sailing and is past member of the Outrigger Yacht Club at Lake Norman. Larry raced in many of the club's competitions. He had been a member of the Astronomical Society of Rowan County for 11 years and currently vice-president. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Concordia Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday prior at the church. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Smith Karriker, daughter, Gail Ann Safrit (Josh), grandson, Colt Safrit, step grandson Joel Safrit, sister, Becky Karriker, former wife, Mary Clark and his beloved cat, Dusty.
