Obituary: Lary Dean "Butch" Sheeks left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 17, 2011. He was born February 3, 1944, the youngest child of Grady & Sadie Sheeks. He was the father of two children, Todd Sheeks of Landis and Jackie Sheeks of Carolina Beach, NC. He had 5 grandchildren - Candice Smith (Patrick), Megan Sheeks, and Asia Sheeks all of Kannapolis, Sydney Sheeks of Landis, and Whitney Faggart of Concord. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Sheeks Varner (James) and a brother Tony Sheeks, both of Kannapolis, and a brother the Reverend Bill Sheeks (Eleanor) of Cleveland, Tennessee. He had a number of nieces and nephews. Butch was an avid hunter, fisherman, and a lover of the outdoors. He also loved NASCAR and especially Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Mr. Sheeks was an Air Force Veteran and was in Alaska during the earthquake of 1964. He often spoke of having the best of both worlds, the security of the Air Force during duty hours and the wilds of Alaska to explore while off duty. The funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation from 4:30 to 6:00 PM Sunday February 20, 2011 followed by the funeral at 6:00PM, both at the Kannapolis Church of God of which he was a member. Grave side service and burial will be at the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC on Monday at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Kannapolis Church of GodChoir 221 West Ave. Kannapolis, NC 28081.
