Laura Abernathy Lindsay

Obituary: Laura Abernathy Lindsay, age 89, died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC. She was born September 20, 1921 in Franklin County, GA, the daughter of the late Asbury Joel Abernathy and Gertrude Blaylock Abernathy. She was the youngest girl in her family. In 1942 she & her late husband moved to Kannapolis, NC to find work. Laura was employed with the former Cannon Mills Co. Plt.#10 and later Plt.#4 #2 Spinning Room for over thirty years until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of God's Church of Faith, Kannapolis, NC where she was an assistant Sunday School teacher, active in Bible Study, & was part of the visitation team of the church. Her family fondly recalls her love of going to church and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Thomas Lindsay; two sisters, Irene Abernathy and Annie Jones; two brothers, H.N. Abernathy and Gene Abernathy. The funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at God's Church of Faith, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Jeff Upright. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Survivors include three daughters, Janett Ross, Janie Buckwell, and JoAnn Crosby, all of Kannapolis, NC; six grandchildren, Deborah Upright & husband, Jeff, Avis Rumple & husband, Eddie, Rick Ross and wife, Linda, Jerry Biggers, Suzann Bass, Elizabeth Clark & husband, Kenny; fourteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
