Laura Elizabeth (Beam) Sides

Laura Elizabeth Beam Sides, 87, of Lexington, SC and formerly of Kannapolis, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2022.

Laura was born on November 2, 1934 in Kannapolis, NC to the late William Taylor Beam and Ruby Whittington Beam.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, C. D. Sides Sr.

Laura worked in numerous capacities at the Federal Reserve Bank for 38 years.  Prior to her retirement in 1993, Laura’s final post with the Bank was travelling throughout the Carolinas, marketing the Fed’s services to member institutions. She loved this job because it allowed her to meet new people constantly, as well as visit old friends.  She was a proud member of the Financial Women’s Association, serving in several capacities within the organization. In her younger years, Laura rode motorcycles with the Motor Maids, as well as travelling with C.D. on his Harley. After her husband’s passing, she moved to Lexington, SC, where she spent the remainder of her days being Nana to her four Grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Charlie Sides, his wife Dr. Addie Sides, her grandchildren- David Sides, Katherine Sides, Laurel Sides, and Daniel Harrison Sides; her brother-in-law, Don Wilkerson and sister-in-law, Helen Sides.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Carolina Memorial Park with Pastor Terry Rollins officiating.
