Laurah Dobson Van Poole

Obituary: Laurah Grace Dobson Van Poole, 89, of Kannapolis, died Thursday, May 23, 2019 at her home after a period of declining health. Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church with Rev. John Futterer officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 29, 2019 before the memorial service at the Church. Laurah was born November 17, 1929, in Iredell Co. the daughter of Joseph Samuel Dobson and Laura Grace Hill. She was a life-long area resident and a graduate of UNCG Women's College in 1951 and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Laurah taught 1 year at Cannon High School and then 32 years at A.L. Brown High School where she taught history. She was a long-time member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church Laurah was an avid reader with a sharp wit and a wry smile. Laurah was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Sister. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Edwin L. Van Poole in 2000 and her three brothers Sam, Adrian, and Shuford Dobson. Those left to cherish Laurah's memory include her son, Linn Van Poole of Kannapolis, daughter Laurah Van Poole Shealy (Michael) of Columbia S.C., grandchildren Aaron Van Poole, Jordan Van Poole, Andrew Shealy, Grace Shealy, great grandchildren James Shealy, Arthur Shealy, and brother Lolo Dobson of Concord.
