Obituary: Lourine Davis Van Etten, 71, of Concord passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013 at CMC-NorthEast. Her death was unexpected. She was born on November 3, 1942 in Moore County, the daughter of the late Thomas and Katherine Scarboro Davis. Lourine was an energetic and feisty woman that was best known for her love of family, ability to interact with children of all ages and endless sense of humor. Anyone that had the opportunity to meet Lourine, realized quickly, that she never met a stranger. She would joke and kid with everyone as if she had known them for years, quickly earning their friendship. Her most endearing quality, however, was the love that she had for her family. Whether it was watching after her husband, keeping her son out of trouble or chasing after her grandchildren, her days were filled with joy. Having transferred from the world of manufacturing to healthcare after completing her LPN, she spent many years helping others. Retiring early from the working class in 1998, she chose to focus her efforts on the home front. Two of her biggest hobbies included taking care of her two grandchildren and watching professional wrestling. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Concord. While in the hospital for a routine hip replacement, to improve her mobility, she suffered a massive stoke. Her passing was a shock to all that knew and loved her. She was known by many and will be missed by all! We love you!! Funeral services for Lourine will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home with Father Roger Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 to 2:00 PM on Saturday prior to the services. She is survived by her husband; Wayne Van Etten of the home, a son Thomas Van Etten Sr. and wife Meghan of Kannapolis, 2 grandchildren; Thomas (Andrew) Van Etten Jr. and Taylor Van Etten, and a brother; Thomas Davis and wife Ruby of Aberdeen, and 2 nephews.
