Lavania Gladys Horne

Obituary: Lavania Gladys Mills Horne, 92, of Kannapolis, formerly of Concord went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 28, 2016 at CHC-Northeast Medical Center following a period of declining health. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God and the love and prayers of her family and friends carried her through eleven long years of illness. Lavania was born May 30, 1924 in Union County, NC a daughter of the late Walter Ellison Mills and Effie Annie Jordan Mills. She was the oldest of six brothers and one sister, all of which preceded her in death. Lavania was married to the late Claude Bryant Horne for 62 years and was a loving mother to two children. A son, Edwin Horne preceded her in death in 1960. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Horne Craddock of Concord, three grandchildren; Annette DeVault, granddaughter and caregiver, Tonia Bynum and Crystal Craddock. Also surviving are five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Lavania was a lifelong member of Brookdale Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and loved ones, loving the Lord and reading her bible. She also was known for her gardening and enjoyed cooking. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Curtis Parker of Central Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence of her granddaughter, Tonia Bynum of Concord. She will be greatly missed. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers and support in this time of grief. Service: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday November 2, 2016 Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
