Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Lee Roy Miller, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare System- NorthEast, Concord, NC after a lengthy illness. He was born October 8, 1932 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late Henry Miller and Lillian Cline Miller. Sonny was employed as a roofer with the former Keasler Roofing, Concord, NC for many years. Later, he worked for the VFW Poston-Perkins 8989. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served on the USS Midway during tKhe Korean Conflict. He is remembered by his family as a man that loved fishing and playing golf. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:30 PM Friday, April 8, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Dr. Marty Payton and Rev. Ron Bushey. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC with military rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Tharon Perry Miller; his children, Robert Miller (Carrie) of Gastonia, NC; Connie Hinson (Ken) of Concord, NC; Jerry Miller (June) of Wilmington, NC; and Rick Miller (Cindy) of Kannapolis, NC; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
