Leila Kemp

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Leila Mae Sweat Kemp, age 92, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Brian Center, Concord, NC where she had lived the past two years. She was born December 20, 1923 in Marion County, SC, the daughter of the late Walter Sweat and Martha Berry Sweat. Leila was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, #5 Winder Room for over thirty years until her retirement. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she loved the membership and prayed for many people. Leila also dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She was thought of as a good Christian woman and had been saved by her Lord Jesus Christ for 78 years. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by nine siblings. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, November 18, 2016 at Unity Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Dr. Tommy Wensil. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 PM Friday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include her children, Jo Ann Deaton & husband, Don of China Grove, NC; Jean Foster & husband, Harold of Salisbury, NC; Bobby Kemp & wife, Lisa and Timmy Kemp and wife, Penny, both of Gold Hill, NC; eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, and one sister.
