Lelia Moss Wheeler

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Lelia Christie Moss Wheeler, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after a period of declining health. She was born April 30, 1931 in Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late Jay W. Christy and Katie Belle Jones Christie. Lelia was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School and had attended Business College. Lelia was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, for many years until her retirement. In later years she also worked for the former Pathways Home Health Service in Concord, NC. She was an active member of Royals Oaks Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was a part of the choir, taught Wednesday night children's church, and the Bethany Ladies Sunday School Class for many years. Her family fondly remembers that church work was her life. She had also served as a Girl Scout leader for her granddaughter throughout the years with Brownie and Junior Scouts. She had a special love in cake decorating and had taken some classes in the art. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Donahue; her two sons, Johnny and Tommy; and a granddaughter, Jessica Moss. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Royal Oaks Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Leon Smith and Rev. Charles Overcash. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Survivors include her husband of 12 years, David E. Wheeler; one son, Dennis Moss of Kannapolis, NC; two grandchildren, Amy Gibson & husband, Justin of Kannapolis, NC and Shane Moss of Yorktown, VA; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Marlow; a step-son, Tim Wheeler of Kannapolis; a step-daughter, Jody Graham of CO; and a step-granddaughter, Sara Mooney of CO Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or Royal Oaks Baptist Church, 904 Texas Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
