Obituary: Lena Jane Carter Gulledge, age 70, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, April 2, 2010 at Mercy-Carolina Specialty Hospital, Charlotte, NC after three months of declining health. She was born August 28, 1939 in Marlboro County, SC, the daughter of the late Elbert John Carter and Pauline Johnson Carter. She was a 1958 graduate of A.L. Brown High School. She was employed as a telephone operator with the former Concord Telephone Company where she had worked for 30 years until her retirement in 2002. She was an active member of Bethel Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis, NC where she had served as vice-chairman of the board and was hospitality director for many years. She spent her life loving, serving, and caring for others including her family, co-workers, and friends. She also had a special love for spending time on the beach at Oak Island, NC. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a son, Kirk Eugene Gulledge and a grandson, Jonathan Scott Gulledge The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Bethel Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Joe Harding and Rev. Steve Dagenhart. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, April 5, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Wayne Gulledge; her children, two daughters, Wendy DeLoach of Lynchburg, VA and Tracey Gulledge of Concord,NC; her son, Scotty Gulledge & wife, Rachel of Spring Arbor, MI; Her grandchildren, Zachary DeLoach & wife, Carissa of Lynchburg, VA, Matthew DeLoach of Forest, VA, Hannah DeLoach of Blacksburg, VA, Joshua Gulledge and Caleb Gulledge, both of Spring Arbor MI, Tyler Treece and Jesse Treece, both of Concord, NC; Her sister, Maxine Johns & husband, Bobby of Salisbury, NC; her brothers, Paul Carter & wife, Jean of Holden Beach, NC, Robert Carter & wife, Glenda of Concord, NC, Doug Carter & wife, Elaine of Salisbury, NC; And a host of aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews, church family, and friends who loved her dearly.
